A blockbuster wartime bio-pic faces the axe – after it was revealed the New Yorker who wrote it made the whole story up! Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss and Irish starlet Sarah Bolger were set to make “The Fence” – based on an autobiography by Herman Rosenblat.
In the movie, Dublin-born beauty Bolger plays Roma, a young girl who forms a bond with teenage Nazi concentration camp victim Rosenblat after she keeps him alive by tossing him breadcrumbs and apples over the barbed wire fence.
However, Rosenblat, who went on to marry Roma following a chance meeting years later in New York, has now shockingly confessed he concocted the information in his book, “Angel at the Fence: The True Story of a Love that Survived.”
Retired New York telly repairman Herman, whose bogus story has now been scrapped by publishers, apologised this week, saying: “I wanted to bring happiness to people, to remind them not to hate, but to love and tolerate all people. I brought good feelings to a lot of people and I brought hope to many. My motivation was to make good in this world. In my dreams, Roma will always throw me an apple, but I now know it is only a dream.”
Even chat show queen Oprah Winfrey was taken in by the hoax. Oprah who hosted Rosenblat and his wife, Roma Radzicki Rosenblat, on her show twice, called their romance “the single greatest love story” she had encountered in her 22 years on the show.
He’s one of the most popular political figures of all time, but a new book will trash the reputation of America’s favourite president John F Kennedy and portray him as a sex fiend.
The bombshell new book “American Adulterer,” by British writer Jed Mercurio, ignores Kennedy’s political accomplishments and focuses instead on his daily addiction to illicit sex sessions with beautiful starlets like Marilyn Monroe, Angie Dickinson and Judith Campbell Exner. And the page turner, billed as a work of fiction, is set to spark outrage among the powerful Kennedy Clan, who are regarded as America’s own royal family.
Publishers Simon & Schuster say American Adulterer, released this July, is an “explosive retelling of Kennedy’s White House years,” a period in which “we see him at his worst, as a compulsive philanderer. “Kennedy had an uncontrollable and unrelenting appetite for sexual adventure.”
JFK’s daughter Caroline Kennedy, who is hoping to follow in her father’s illustrious footsteps by becoming a New York senator, has so far not commented on the forthcoming book.
Did cancer-stricken Senator Ted Kennedy secretly nurse a 40 year love affair with his late brother’s wife Jackie? That’s the amazing rumour circulating around Washington. And according to the latest issue of Globe magazine, members of the world’s most famous Irish American political clan The Kennedys fear he may finally talk about his forbidden love for the glamourous brunette icon in a bombshell new autobiography.
The page turner also gives Kennedy the opportunity to pour out his heart about his guilt over his alcoholic wife Joan and the pretty girl passenger who died in a car wreck when Ted drove her off a bridge. Before he succumbs to cancer, Teddy, whose siblings have been struck down one by one by the so-called Irish Kennedy curse, means to publish his autobiography in which he will spill the beans about scandals like the notorious Chappaquiddick incident in which youngster Mary Jo Kepechne perished after her co-passenger Kennedy drove his car off a bridge.
When Kennedy signed a $6 million agreement for his memoirs, cynics believed they would just be a complete whitewash job but now that he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, it is widely expected he will leave no stone unturned.
A source close to the Kennedy clan tells Globe, “In the early days after his cancer diagnosis, Ted was talking to family members about hurrying to complete his biography – and one of the subjects they discussed was Jackie. “Ted told them he was madly in love with her for years. There was stunned silence and he quickly added, ‘I always loved her, she was so special.'”
He made a fortune in the US after his parents emigrated from Ireland – but sarcastic comic Denis Leary is biting the hand that feeds him by branding his fellow Americans “fat, lazy and stupid.” Foul mouthed funnyman Leary – who created the telly drama Rescue Me, about Irish firemen in New York – reckons the rest of the world hates the so-called Land of the Free because its inhabitants are arrogant and obnoxious.
And when his offensive new book “Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid” comes out in November, he might need to get the first plane out of the country. In one extract, Leary rages: “I’m sick of low esteem and fake fat-suit-wearing female talk-show hosts and extreme makeovers and steroid-laden home run hitters and Reese Witherspoon movies and Paris Hilton‘s himbo boyfriends and celebrity rehab and Dr. Phil.”
Despite his rough exterior, Leary does have a soft side. He has raised millions for the New York families of Irish American firefighters through his charity, the Leary Foundation.
